I incorporate values, strengths, and goal assessment to help my clients develop and achieve career and leadership development that engages their hearts as well as their minds. I am a master of progressive career transformation myself: I practiced law in both large and boutique law firms, and went on to coach thousands of individuals of diverse experience as a dean of students and adjunct leadership professor. To deepen my passion for transformative coaching and fostering authentic belonging, I now coach, consult, and train full-time. I am certified in Hogan Assessment Systems, which assesses personality, development opportunities, and values/motivators. I hold a Certificate in Graduate Applied Psychology and received my JD from UC Berkeley School of Law.
I work with about 50% lawyers and 50% professionals in other industries and find that my clients appreciate the unique perspectives and practices I bring from different industries. For example, many of my lawyer clients have embraced the idea of iterative and incremental development that is widely practiced in the tech industry.
I enjoy working with all populations within the law. With my belonging expertise, many of my clients end up being self-identifying women and minorities.
I view coaching as a collaborative process and start each coaching relationship with a complimentary session to assess alignment between the client’s needs and my coaching approach. After that, I help my client explore their goals, motivations, learning preferences, strengths and challenges. My coaching approach centers on helping my clients identify and leverage their strengths to address their challenges. I typically gather insights from any personality assessments my client has done and may conduct a Hogan Assessment for a client for who it would be helpful.
Each roughly 50-minute coaching session begins with a progress check on the last session’s action plan and discussion of any issues and opportunities that have arisen or heated up since the prior session. Each session ends with an articulation of the action plan the client will take before the next session, with some assistance given as needed with prioritizing actions.
I am open to the cadence of sessions the client prefers, although I find that clients who meet with me at least once every two weeks are best able to maintain their momentum towards achieving their goals. I like to periodically revisit with each client their goals to measure progress and make any adjustments.
I expect my clients to engage in the process with sincere curiosity about themselves, openness to trying new approaches and realizing new truths about themselves, and commitment to the coaching process. I also depend on my clients to be forthcoming about how the elements of coaching are working for them so we can adjust as necessary to best help them move forward.
In the unique situation a client wants me harvest insight directly from others and could benefit from that, I can do so.
Senior-level client off-ramping from her current job was feeling frustrated with her situation and confused about where to go next in her career and how to get there. Through exercises, reflection, and conversation, I helped her: (1) Reframe her impending career transition as something exciting and joyful to move towards; (2) Actively define her own goals and needs for her next career step instead of letting the market and past experience limit her; and (3) Remain empowered through the often frustrating job search process. She ended up creating a patchwork career that allowed her to successfully contract out one set of her unique skills while starting her own business utilizing another unique skillset (a path she had not truly considered for herself when our work together began).
Minority, female client wished to reenter the workforce in an updated area of practice after over a decade out of the workforce and found herself immobilized by self-doubt (somewhat due to Imposter Syndrome). We explored the sources of her doubt, discounting some and trouble-shooting others. We also examined how her unique journey and experiences made her uniquely qualified for target jobs. She rapidly found her dream job and began receiving exemplary feedback and opportunities, including receiving a prestigious assignment to her employer’s premier client. She reports tremendous fulfillment and attributes her newfound poise, confidence, and comfort to our work together, calling it “life-changing.”
Client must be ready to embark on the coaching and self-discovery journey with earnestness and openness.
I tailor coaching packages to the unique needs of the client. Please contact me to discuss.
